I am the man who was staggering around on Kilimanjaro. Tarka saved me. I am extremely grateful. But for him, I would have kept going up. To say that would have been bad is an understatement. I had lost my capacity for rational thought, so Tarka's intervention literally saved me. He was totally clear, correct, and professional. My guide would not let me rest, and I was in a very bad way. After Tarka left, I lay down in the snow and all I wanted to do was go to sleep for a very very long time at 18000 feet. I came out of it, headed down, and saw Tarka again. I am back in America safely now. But I am just incredibly grateful to Tarka. Thank you.

Dear Tarka, I just spoke to Mummy who told me you were down from Kilimanjaro so I've now read your account - glad you didn't get mountain sickness - especially the kind your Granny had on Everest which involved spouting Russian poetry and having to have a piggy-back, I don't think having to carry a big chap like you down a mountain would have done much for international relations!!! Hope you don't mind returning to the heat - this is the downside of going up mountains (literally). Love from us all, Ione & Co xxxx
