Product Testing, Development and Launch

Primal Journey has been part of the design and development stage of products, as well as rigorously testing them on expeditions since 2004. Following the study of ‘Product Engineering’ at Brunel University and ‘Sports Technology Engineering’ at the University of Bath, they began practical testing of equipment in remote regions throughout the globe in both training and expeditions. They now proudly work with some of the worlds leading outdoor equipment manufacturers helping them develop and test cutting edge designs. Uniquely they offer both a male and female tester/expeditionist to carry out tests on your products. For unisex equipment, a report is compiled from both testers’ results.

Filming

Over the years Tarka has developed a love of filming (both his own journeys and those of others) and he has become a proficient cameraman in extremely hostile circumstances, temperatures and conditions. He has filmed a number of high altitude (+6000m) and polar expeditions (as an expedition member) where temperatures have been as low as -50°C (-90°C with wind-chill). Most recently, and most comprehensively he filmed Primal Journey’s self sufficient 4500km trek across China and Mongolia (2007) where temperatures ranged from +40°C to -35°C. A UK based Production Company (Pangaea TV) are currently turning it into a one-hour documentary. In addition to the skills needed to actually undertake the expeditions, Tarka also have a broad range of useful attributes including; expedition and wilderness medicine training, communications, electronics, engineering, programming, data collection, mountain SAR, crevasse extraction etc. He has also spent considerable time training, leading and shadowing teams in extreme environments making sure they are both safe and logistically fluid.

Presenting

Their skills, knowledge, experience and above all passion, for adventure, sports and travel has moved them rapidly in to the world of presenting. Sharing their feelings with a camera whilst battling treacherous conditions is seemingly becoming part of daily life, and they are currently working on four documentary/short films, both as a pair and singularly.

Modeling/Advertising

Katie-Jane has a wealth of modeling experience working in the industry for over 14 years in areas to include Sport, Fashion, Editorial, Catwalk, Promotional, Stage, TV, Film and Equestrian. Since becoming an Ultra Endurance Athlete she has specialized predominantly in sports modeling as her athletic figure is most suited to this field. Sports include; Horse Riding (Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross-Country), Cycling (Road and MTB), Sport Climbing, Running, Athletics, Gym and Trekking. Sports she is currently developing include; Mountaineering, Rowing, Kayaking, Ski Touring and Cross Country Skiing.

Whether it’s for an advertising campaign, editorial or a catalogue, companies within the adventure sports market are becoming increasingly aware that the customer wants to see products modeled by, or in situations where the model can actually ‘do’ the sport they are promoting. This has led to a demand in the ‘all action hero’ such as Tarka, who despite not having a background in modeling, have such an extensive area of skills within adventure sports, they are ideal for advertising. Tarka’s sports include; Mountaineering, Ice Climbing, Sport Climbing, Traditional Climbing, Touring, Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Tele-mark Skiing, Moguls, Cycling (Road and MTB), Running, Paragliding, Skydiving, BASE Jumping, Kites, Kayaking, Rowing, Canoeing, Trekking and a number of others.
